Advent Bible Reading

firstdays

A plan to bring us joy at Christmas!

Thursday 23 November 2017 by Ad Taylor Weekes

The month of December is almost upon us which means that we have a natural opportunity to consider again the remarkable fact of God becoming flesh. The Christmas story is one that is probably very familiar to many of us and so we need to be praying all the more earnestly that familiarity does not blind us to the wonder of it.

To help me with that I usually try and work through a Bible reading plan that takes me through the Christmas story, to reflect on it in a fresh way. This year I'm going through the book, The First Days of Jesus, by Andreas Kostenberger and Alexander Stewart. In the Appendix they suggest an advent Bible reading plan where you read a section of the Bible each day alongside a section in the book. Of course, the Bible reading plan stands alone and so I thought I'd share it on the blog in case it's helpful for others. It's detailed below. There are, of course, other resources available. For example, with our children we usually use a Bible reading plan alongside making an Advent Tree, detailed in the Appendix of Disciplines of a godly Family.

However you choose to go about reflecting on the Christmas story this year, let's be praying that we would be left in awe and full of joy at the Word become flesh.
